Perform conservation guardianship

Perform conservation  guardianship is protecting the animals! And the big thing that is taking or killing animals is humans by pouching, there are lot of ways to pouch from using wires, holes, guns and bows. What the people do is they go into the bush and set up their snares the more they set up the better is their change of catching something! So with maybe 20 snares in the bush how are they going to remember where all the snares are?? Well they mark each one next to the road with maybe a big rock or cigarette box or even a big tree, so always when we see something obvious we go check it out>

Orientate, navigate, use and create maps

If you have to give people directions you have to communicate very well, at all times the person must understand you, and know where to go, so they won't get lost. choose appropriate routs and describe it as it applies to the situation, use clear and simple language.Things you can use to find your way is maps, GPS or a compass. Also use landmarks and signs. Make sure you know how to read maps and use a GPS. You can also draw a simple map for someone that needs directions, use symbols. make sure it is neat and simplistic. If you want to, you can even draw it on scale.

Identify and monitor local wildlife

When you work on a game farm you need to monitor your wildlife regularly.
To do this you need a map of the farm and a GPS.
When you go out to monitor the wild life, you have to drive around and look for the animals. When you see the animals you mark it on the GPS and maps. Then you write the quantity  and specie of the animals and their age (adult/young) and their sex (female/ male).
You can also look for animals that are wounded or sick, then mark it on the map so some one can help the animal.
You can use this information to know if you need to do gamecapturing, and what to catch when doing game capturing

Cultural heritage resources management

Stone age

Most of the tools they used for hunting and used as (knifes)
The early stone age dates between 2.6million and 200 000 years ago .
The firt stone age peoples brains wasn't fully developed
.

This rock pots where used for crushing food and to collect water .

After the early stone age and the middle and late stone age . The iron age began

 At around 2000 years ago the first Bantu-speaking agro-pastoralists began to arrive in South Africa from central and eastern Africa, bringing with them an iron age culture.
In the 1300s a larger movement of iron age people seems to have taken place from the low lying Bush veld areas to the open grasslands of the central interior plateau , where a more extensive cattle farming culture was developed.

Control non-dangerous damage causing animals

Controlling non dangerous damage causing animals is hard work! For ins-tens a fly is a non dangerous damage causing animal it cant harm you but can irritate the hell out of you!!!!!!!!!

So what we do to control this is by putting out fly traps, and we also spray E.M

Basic field infrastructural maintenance

What maintenance is about in the field is more about monitoring around the farm to check for any broken fences where animal could have escaped and how the fence where damaged animals\people that poach.
When we find a broken fence wile monitoring we look if we can fix the fence with the equipment that we have just for preventing animals from escaping.

Maintenance is also about driving around on the farm and picking up papers for the safety of all the animals and also the neatness of the place and farm you are working at.

We also have driving roots and walking trails that should be checked for grass and bush that's in the path of the roads and should be cut of.

The panga is used for cutting thick  bushes and roots that stick out of the ground where people can fol over .And is also used for cutting smaller branches .

Conservation ethics

Conservation ethics starts by you as person, if you don't have respect for your self why would you have respect for others and their property and belongings? When working you have to have ethics you have to look after the tools you are using for it to last long periods other wise your company is just going to loose profit and that means your salary is going to drop and in the end of the day you will loose your job.

Teamwork

Teamwork well some people prefer to work alone some like to work in teams it depends from person to person... Teamwork can have a lot of advantages because you work as a team so obviously to work must go faster,BUT working in a team can slow the work as well because when some people are in a team they think ah well I'm going to relax now because the other people can do the work, but then yet again the other people can think that as well so then in the end of the day the work is not finish! Also when working in a team some people will tell the other team mates how to work and how to do what and that will make them made. So when working in teams always consider the other people!

Health and safety to the work places

When working and you are in a hurry you don't always think about health and safety. For example if you just want to cut something with a electrical saw you have to wear glasses gloves long pants just for cutting something small. But actually this OHS is very important because maybe you just make one mistake and loose a eye or a finger than there will be trouble... So it is necessary to give attention to OHS!!!!!!!

Collect field specimens

Cobus took us out to our "blou buffel land" the reason for this was to collect field specimens. In our blou buffel land we grow fox tail buffalo grass which we use for our animals. Now in some places the grass grow much much better than in other places, so what we did is we went to dig holes and collect the soil in the good growing places and in the bad growing places. We dug 80 holes in the sun sjoe and t was hot!!! And you have to dig deep to get the soil.]

After that we went back and Cobus showed us how to pack it and we send it to America for tests...

Harvesting of fauna

Animal capture was really a lot of fun for me. But  believe me when I say it is a lot of work to get set up its a lot of hard labour  the equipment is heavy and have to go far ... When you are finish the fun part starts . The chopper  go and search for game in that case it  was zebras and then he brings them in when they are in the boma  the chopper make a alarm then you close the one curtain en then the second one and then the third one. Then they go into the truck... Now I know exactly how they do animal capture..

Combat soil erosion

Wind and water are the main agents of soil erosion.
Plants provide protective cover on the land and prevent soil erosion for the following reasons:
* plants slow down water as it flows over the land (runoff) and this allows much of the rain to soak into the ground;
* plant roots hold the soil in position and prevent it from being washed away;
* plants break the impact of a raindrop before it hits the soil, thus reducing its ability to erode;
* plants in wetlands and on the banks of rivers are of particular importance as they slow down the flow of the water and their roots bind the soil, thus preventing erosion.

We have a big open flat of grass, but by some places there are nothing because the sand is not good because of sun burn etc. So we worked on a project we harvested seekel bush  a lot of them and put it in the non developed areas. We have also put a lot of old grass there!
